Golf Tournament

Usually referred to as The Masters, it is one of the four championships in professional golf. The men s tournament is probably the first that happens every year. Final rounds usually occur in April, almost always on the second Sunday of that month. What makes this championship unique is that it happens at the same location, at the August National Golf Club in Georgia.

This tournament is particularly important because its champions are then automatically eligible to play in three other major tournaments: The PGA Championship, Open Championship , and the US Open. The Master s is open to players all over the world and all the players involved are invited to the event

as guests. This tournament is so popular that this year s tickets to the Practice Rounds alone are already sold out! These tickets are limited and only those who apply for them can actually buy them in advance.

Born in 1975, Tiger Woods has a history of achievements as an American professional golfer that would break a few records itself. Ranked as the number 1 golfer, Woods was the highest paid golfer in 2005 and has more wins on the PGA Tour than any other player that still plays professionally. Woods is a multiracial player of African-American and Asian descent, and is described as the player who has brought newfound interest in the game of golf particularly to the youth of America.

Tiger Woods holds 4 wins in the US Masters Tournament for the years 1997, 2001, 2002, and 2005. However, this was denied him in 2006 as he was beaten out by fellow

professional golfer Phil Mickelson. If he had won, Woods would have been the only player to hold 5 consecutive wins of the The US Masters Tournament. It is the earliest held and yearly professional golf tournament, usually contested in the month of April.

Arnold Palmer is one of golf’s most famous celebrities. Arnold’s career coincided with the popularity of televised sports that began in the 1950s. Fans adored him for his handsome features and his willingness to play risky shots. The public show more affection to him, even if other golfers may have more trophies on their mantelpiece. This amazing sports figure was born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania in 1929. He learned the game from his father who was a professional at the Latrobe Country Club. He exhibited that he has considerable talent for this game from the age of seven.

After a brutal third round of golf at the 2007 Masters golf tournament,
the powers that be at Augusta had some mercy on the competitors and
softened the course for the fourth and final round.

Make no mistake it was the Masters golf course, Augusta National, that
won this most recent golf tournament. Not since the 1950’s and 1960’s
had viewers seen such a high winning score.

Little known Zack Johnson eventually won the 2007 Masters with a
score of 1 over par, but the grand old Masters golf course left little doubt
about the real winner.
