The US Open Golf Tournament has a long history beginning with the first US Open’s Men’s Championship, which was held on a nine-hole course in Newport, Rhode Island on October 4, 1895. Both professionals and amateurs alike can play in the tournament, provided that they are either exempt, which is the case with many professionals who are either ranked, have won the tournament in recent years or won another one of the major tournaments recently, or they pass a qualifying round. The exempt golfers actually account for roughly half of the 156 players entered in the US Open.
